Fax, scanner and copier features:
Look for features such as speed dial, group dial and fax storage memory, etc. Check the vertical and horizontal scanning resolution. Check to see if the software included allows scanning directly to fax or other applications. As for copying, focus on the ability to enlarge or reduce from the original document's size and the number of copies per minute in color or black and white output mode.
Get enough memory:
Check the memory of the MFD as per your requirement. Faxing usually would require at least 0.5 megabytes (MB) of standard memory in a MFD. This memory would be enough to hold about 25 pages.
Assess the copy quality:
Before buying one should always check the copy quality. One quick way to assess copy quality is by looking at the MFDs copy resolution. A copying resolution of 400 dpi is considered reasonable; 200 dpi copies will be of a relatively poor quality. Try copying a few documents to check if it can copy large dark objects and fine lines equally well. Look for a MFD that can print better at higher resolution without adding more to the cost.
Automatic document feeder:
Check if you need an Automatic Document Feeder unit. This extra attachment will ease your work functioning by saving time and manpower, as the documents will be fed automatically. It will also allow you to copy different size sheets. But will also be an expensive thing to get.
Paper size:
Check the flatbed models for its document accepting capabilities as it flatbed might be of A4 size and will not be able to accept legal sized or A3 sized documents for scanning or copying. A larger flatbed area would be better for those who have to handle different verities or document sizes.
Color printing:
If your requirement is colour printing then some low-end inkjet models offer good quality colour printing at a very low price premium. So, for the budget conscious, the affordable inkjet models are as good as their expensive laser counterparts.
Service and support:
When your MFD breaks down and needs repair, keep in mind that you are losing several functions at the same time. Its important to get it fixed and fixed quickly. Most warranty and service plans should offer at least one year. Most retailers offer extended service plans for up to three years on most models. Check to see if the retailer has an on-site repair center. Also check if the manufacturer is offering extended warranty. Basically, the brand you choose should be backed with good support and service.
