While stepping out of the Charminar, I spotted some kids playing in the portico. There was this cute, little girl running around gleefully. I decided to wait, with my camera ready to fire—on Daylight white balance, continuous shooting mode,
matrix metering, image review off and the built-in flash popped up in slow sync mode with -1/3 EV flash exposure compensation. For the uninitiated, the
slow sync is particularly useful as it allows you to add a fill flash without underexposing the background. Sure, the kid got conscious when she saw the camera trained on her but after a while returned to her normal exuberant self. I continued shooting without taking my finger off the shutter release, and finally got one of my best shots ever. The skin tones were natural, if not enhanced but enough to add value to the image.
