Simple ways of making slideshows out of your zillions of vacation pics
Raunak Roy | Aug 04, 2008
Over the last couple of years, I have come to realize that digital cameras have their share of pros and cons. On one hand, you save on the film rolls and developing cost. You also don’t have the thirty-six frames limit on your head. So you go on a vacation with a couple of memory cards and click away. If you don’t like a photograph the way it looks on the display, you just ruthlessly delete it and take another picture. Or you take several shots of that beautiful beach and come home and select your favourite. There sure is a lot of option. But, how do you share your digital experience? Digitally of course, just e-mail them you say. But, bear in mind that it requires access to a PC. And my grandfather for example does not have one; and thus he does not know how to use a Windows Photo Viewer. He also lives pretty far away, so I cannot really pick up my notebook computer and walk down the street to show him our vacation photos.

Let me give you another scenario. You have friends at home who are pretty excited about your honeymoon trip. Rather than pouring over the PC monitor in the study, won’t it be more fun if you could watch the entire thing on your big-screen TV in the living room? All you need is a TV which all of us have and a standalone video player, which also is pretty commonplace. Even my grandfather has one. So all I need to do is burn him a DVD or a VCD in such that way that he can watch it on his TV from his DVD player and ship it to him. All you need is the right piece of software for the job. So, we give you not one, not two but three different tools that convert your photo collection into near professional self-playing movies with menus and audio soundtracks. They run on any standard VCD or DVD player. With simple and easy step-by-step guides, you will be a moviemaker in no time. Just remember that all these tools use the term ‘show’ for the movie that you will make and each individual image or photograph is called a ‘slide’.

  • Using AC fan
