How to use your dishwasher efficiently
Team CI | May 02, 2007

After successfully managing to rustle up dinner for your family, you usually don't have the energy left to scrub the grease off your dishes. This is where a dishwasher steps in to rescue you. The only worry is, once you get used to it, it is difficult to play substitute. But following some of these tips religiously would ensure a snag-free run for your dishwasher. These are things you can do yourself to keep your kitchen appliances active and running.

Tip 1: When loading your dishwasher, make sure silverware and dishes don't catch the spray arms; this way you will avoid damaging the arms.

Tip 2: Run a check on the spray arms for debris of any kind such as paper, glass, or any other type, all of which will clog holes. Get rid of obstructions, if any. In case there is glass, it might end up puncturing seals, so run a check on the pump housing.

Tip 3:
If your dishwasher has a manual-clean filter, you have to clean the filter regularly. Follow instructions on the manual provided along with your dishwasher.

Tip 4: You don't necessarily need to pre-rinse dishes before putting them into the dishwasher. All you need to do is scrape the residual food on the dishes before running it at full load.

Tip 5: In case your dish rack has developed rust, it is time you replaced it.

Following these tips will ensure your dishwasher runs on high steam even after elaborate lunch and dinner affairs.

QUICK TIPS
  • Energy saving on microwave usage

Defrosting food in a microwave may be convenient but defrosting it at room temperature costs nothing.

  • Under cover

Place your computer in a room with plenty of air circulation. When a computer is not in use, protect the keyboard, monitor and printer with an anti-static dust cover.

  • Save energy on microwave usage

If your microwave oven has defrosting feature, defrost frozen food before cooking it.
