Get more out of your N-series
It's the best for play, but here's how you can get the best of work from it
Sharon Lobo | Feb 20, 2008
When you think N-series, you're thinking music, videos, downloads, photos, multimedia basically. While the business usage of these S60 smartphones hasn’t been ignored, they aren’t exactly mentioned often enough. In fact, Nokia intended the S60 smartphones for business users who wanted quick and easy access to emails, Internet and office documents in one device. Nokia also threw in some multimedia capabilities to up the all-round capabilities of the phone. Needless to say, the multimedia soon took precedence in people’s minds.

But for all those of you who have an N series handset, your phone is equally efficient in the all-business area – be it Office productivity, Web browsing, navigation, the Nseries has it all. And just so, you put these to good use, we have for you a collection of applications that will boost the productivity of your much-prized Nseries phone.

Quickoffice
Quickoffice is an office suite for Symbian Smartphones; the elements of this office suite are Quickword for documents, Quicksheet for spreadsheets and Quickpoint for presentations. While most of the N-series phones come pre-installed with the free reader version of Quickoffice i.e. you can only read your files and cannot edit them. Quickoffice is quite useful if you need to edit your documents on the go and do not have a laptop.

Adobe Reader
Adobe Reader the popular PDF reader is also available for S60 smartphones; this application is a must for all you book lovers. Adobe Reader for S60 smartphones provides the convenience of reading your favorite book in the form of PDF anytime, anywhere. Also as N-series phones have memory expandability, you can store a large number of e-books on your phone and can read any which one you desire.

Opera mini
Though the N-series phones have a built-in Web browser, it doesn’t have much to offer other than some basic ones. Instead you could opt for Opera Mobile or Opera mini , the latter being a freeware. The Opera mini offers the Web address and search engine box along with bookmarks all on the main screen. This eases the navigation between the three features of the browser. Also you can select the font size and quality of the image that needs to be displayed on the Web page. This provides better feasibility than the N-series’ default Web browser.

Google Maps
Google Maps is another Web based application available for S60 Smartphones. With this application you can plot a certain area or street on the map through its search feature. Google Maps is extremely useful when you need to navigate through an alien land. Also if you desire to view the landscape of an area from a satellite’s view rather than the illustrated map, then that too is possible with the click of a button. The new ‘My location’ feature in Google Maps enables you to pinpoint your approximate location on the map.

All the above-mentioned apps are applicable to S60 smartphones at large, so these would be applicable on Nokia’s efficient E series as well. The E series are anyway aimed at business users and these phones (be it E61, E61i or E62) won’t gain a mention if you’re talking about sound or camera qualities. These phones even come with widescreen displays and broad QWERTY keys, ideal for Internet and office applications. Be it the E series or your multimedia junkie N series, these should help you make the most of the business features and ensure you manage to meet the deadline, even if you aren't at work
