Watching movies on your computer just got more fun with widescreen monitors
Seema Hariharan | Feb 02, 2008
Watching movies or television shows is no longer restricted to your living room. Besides, with each one having varying tastes, there is only so long you can fight over the remote. While PCs have always been an alternative to watch movies, somehow the regular 15-inch screens hardly make for a satisfying display. But here's what you can do. Get yourself a nice widescreen monitor and all your woes will be over. You can watch whatever you want in your very own room, that too without having to huddle up right in front of the screen. So, you can even call all your friends over and watch your favourite flick lying sprawled on the floor, or lounging in a chair. Besides, a widescreen LCD monitor is a much more viable option financially when compared to an LCD TV.

Let's look at some affordable widescreen LCD monitors that you could choose from.

ViewSonic VA1912W
This 19-inch, LCD, colour monitor consumes 36 watts of power per hour (the most energy efficient monitor in our list), has digital user controls and a maximum resolution of 1440x900 dpi. It has a flat screen with anti glare and anti static coating. It is also equipped with built in speakers and 5 ms response time, which means you can enjoy fast paced thrillers and action movies without any flickers or ghosting. It offers DVI input and ClearMotiv fast video-response technology. This allows a frame rates up to 200 fps, which means, you are looking at some true broadcast quality full motion videos. This monitor is also wall-mountable. The only slightly unsatisfactory aspect is the viewing angle, which at 130 degrees isn't quite adequate for a large room.
Price: Rs 14,500

This information on samsung is very useful. Anyway, can someone please tell me the difference between 920 NW and 940 NW with respect to screen size and any other differences? Thanks.
