A blitzkrieg of laptops from Lenovo
Lenovo beefs up its IdeaPad and ThinkPad notebook lines by introducing new models

After Sony and Toshiba, it's time for Lenovo to announce a flurry of laptops. Lenovo has unveiled Centrino 2 powered IdeaPad notebook line and ThinkPad notebook line. Lenovo has beefed up the IdeaPad line by adding new models: the U330, the Y730, the Y530 and the Y430.

The IdeaPad U330 is a slim, light notebook that complements its predecessor, the IdeaPad U11. Available in indigo blue ebony black colours, its frame is of 0.9-inches; it weighs in at just over four pounds. Equipped with the latest version of VeriFace facial recognition technology, users can use VeriFace to access encrypted files and to record a 30-second video message for others. The notebook comes equipped with support for HDMI and an optional built-in DVD burner.

It also includes switchable graphics, allowing users to alternate between integrated and discrete, to help provide maximum battery power, energy efficiency and an excellent multimedia experience. The IdeaPad U330 notebook also offers an LED-backlit display, five hours of battery life and Lenovo's Active Protection System, a feature pioneered by ThinkPad notebooks.

The Ideapad Y730 is a multimedia notebook. Equipped with the design and functionality shared throughout the IdeaPad line, the notebook sports a frameless screen, touch sensitive controls, Dolby Home Theatre, One-Key Rescue System, VeriFace facial recognition, support for HDMI and an optional Blu-Ray DVD player.

The IdeaPad Y430 and Y530 are equipped with all the features shared throughout the IdeaPad line. Available in either a black or a new red textured design, users can choose between having a frameless screen for an infinite-like viewing experience or having a framed screen. The notebooks also feature optional Blu-Ray DVD players.

The new ThinkPad lines get four spiffed-up models in SL, R, T, X and W series.

The SL series gets SL300, SL400 and SL500, all of which are targeted at the small- and medium-sized businesses. They all feature mobile broadband connectivity with 3G capabilities, multimedia support and an optional Blu-ray drive. There are plans for super-economical 3G add-ons from AT&T and Ericsson, plus WiMax is on the cards as well.

The rest of the ThinkPad Line up includes: the R400, the R500, the T400, the T500, the X200 and the W500.

The W500 is positioned as mobile workstation, offering Open-GL performance with mobility. The T series models, the T400 & the T500 feature switchable graphics support and display port.
